Building Community

We would like to foster a spirit of community and cooperation, but Members are naturally free to have as much or as little interaction with others as they choose.

It is recommended, but not required, that Members trade services or goods inside of the community whenever possible rather than purchasing goods or services from outside businesses.  Members are also welcome to work out payment for goods or services with other Members if they prefer.

Meetings

These will be scheduled at necessary and regular intervals for general discussion and decision making, preparations, finances, changes, and updates.

Any Member can call a meeting to discuss important matters by approaching the board/council to address the issue, and appropriate measures will be taken if the matter has not already been addressed or resolved.

Members can also:

  • volunteer to be part of a book share, bike share, or tool and equipment share program.

  • recommend or initiate Community Events to be held at the Meeting House or elsewhere.

  • choose to participate in the building of Community structures.

  • voluntarily help others with private projects, or for negotiated pay if mutually agreed upon.

  • watch out for the security of others on the Property.

  • request security checks and/or allow entrance to their home during their absence by other trusted Members, with permission given in writing.

Interpersonal Conduct

Members are expected to:

  • Act maturely and with common sense

  • Keep safety in mind on and off the property

  • Keep noise to a reasonable minimum, including music

  • Treat each other with respect and courtesy

  • Respect each other’s privacy, personal property and health

Members Shall Not:

  • Steal, or borrow without asking

  • Consume alcohol in common areas, unless while attending Community events as appropriate

  • Interfere with another person’s freedom of movement in private or public areas

  • Threaten or act abusively toward any other person

  • Act aggressively or in an intimidating manner

  • Do malicious harm to others, or to the Property

  • Engage in any illegal or criminal behaviour

Conflict Resolution

Be respectful and honest with your neighbours.  If there is an issue, first address it personally with the perceived offender in a calm manner, and ask for clarification of their intent.  If the issue cannot be resolved to the satisfaction of both parties, any member can request mediation for conflict resolution.

Dealing With Harmful Conduct

Any inappropriate/criminal conduct involving children by an adult will be investigated for clarification and ultimately reported to authorities.

Even pending outcome, any criminal acts are grounds for dismissal from the Community.  Members are all expected to be reasonably aware of Federal and Provincial laws.

Privacy of Information

No Member shall release information to the public or others about any other Member, or release sensitive internal information to the public that could cause harm to the group.

Visitors

For the safety and security of the community, we ask that visitors must be over the age of 18 or be accompanied by an adult who must sign a waiver of liability and be pre-approved before entry, unless they are personal friends or guests whose host will assume responsibility for them.  Visitors or their host will be responsible for damage caused to the property or injury caused to themselves or others.
